WATER MANAGEMENT

Pacific Oils & Fats Industries Sdn Bhd recognizes that water is a crucial resource for our refineries’ operation. We ensure the availability and monitor the quality of water for our refineries to function optimally. We source water from local municipal and realise that water management is important to ensure water is utilized efficiently and to reduce water footprint. Thus, we have adopted water-saving efforts to reduce water intensity namely:

I. Rainwater harvesting for general cleaning purposes and for cooling tower.

II. Recycle wastewater for general cleaning purposes.

In addition, we also monitor water usage intensity to set targets to reduce the water consumption at our refineries. In 2021 and 2022, our water consumption was 0.4m3/MT CPO processed. Over the two years, we managed to maintain the water consumption rate and will continue to minimize our water footprint. We will maintain efficiency of water utilised in our CPO processing activities and committed to reduce water by 0.3 m3/MT CPO processed by the year 2025.

We are equally committed to maintain our Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) within the legal limits and progress towards target. Our BOD in 2021 is 10mg/L which is within the legal limit of 50mg/L, while for COD is 90mg/L which is within legal limit of 200mg/L. The legal limit refers the specification set by the Department of Environment, Malaysia.

CARBON MANAGEMENT

Pacific Oils & Fats Industries Sdn Bhd is aware that increasing carbon emissions has adversely affected the environment and climate. We are committed to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions progressively by implementing best management practices. The key operations at our refineries that contributes to GHG are refining, fractionation, wastewater treatment, electricity, chemical, and fuel consumption. We monitor our GHG emissions from these processes using the ISCC GHG calculation methodology and implemented practices such as the usage of palm kernel shell (PKS) as fuel for the boiler to subside GHG emissions.

The GHG emission at Pacific Oils & Fats Industries Sdn Bhd is 43.03 CO2 e/MT of CPO processed and 49.39 CO2 e/MT of CPO processed in 2021 and 2020 respectively. We managed to reduce GHG emissions by 12.9 % over the two years.
